How Great Product Management is like Great Jazz Music
Much like in a jazz ensemble, a great product manager needs to able to adapt to the environment around them. What makes a product successful is going to vary from organization to organization.
A good product manager needs to start with a solid foundation of skills and tools and then they need to be able to “listen” to their engineering team, their company dynamics and their market to know how to best drive the most successful product.
I use examples from my 20+ year career to show how the ability to mix and match product best methods leads to successful product cultures.
